Machen’s book is, still, the most important Christian book published in the 20th century, in my not-so-humble opinion. And it is still just as relevant today (if not more, what with the onslaught of post-modernism et al) as it was when it was first published 85 years ago. In discussing the differences between the Christian and the various secular worldviews, Machen nailed it. I’ve read this book at least twice, and our adult Sunday School class recently studied it.

Also, I’ve long thought that H. L. Mencken’s obituary for Machen, “Dr. Fundamentalis,” should be published in pamphet form. Mencken may have been no friend of religion, Christian or otherwise, but his obit is remarkably thoughtful and shows that Mencken did, in fact, pay close attention to the theological troubles of his day.

Do all other WTS faculty members feel the same along with Carl Trueman?

I think that is the question, especially for WTS.
